Weary Hues

By Bob Dougherty

Joplin gone,
In poet heaven,
Dream variations,
Long time passed,
Rivers surrounded,
White clouds in sky,
Black Panther on hill,
Stands tall with pride,
As if songs they croon,
Harlem standing still,
Requiem not peace,
Work not complete,
Not done the hunt,
To find the heart,
Of all rest not,
Together,
Never,
Ever,
No.

Note:  I first published this as “anonymous”,  because the subject is Langston Hughes.
Unfortunately, some feel only those of a race can write about icons of that race.
