I dreamt I was in an old house.
There I found a tarnished watch,
its still hands stuck in time.
Who owned the watch, I wondered;
and was the owner's life fulfilled?
Gleaming bright and hands moving
the watch and life became mine.
Then stunned I watched the hands stop.
Now awake my dream was gone,
yet it shed new light with dawn.
It's not the time our life enfolds;
it's the life our time unfolds.
I dreamt I was in an old house.
There I found a tarnished watch,
its still hands stuck in time.
Who owned the watch, I wondered;
and was the owner's life fulfilled?
Gleaming bright and hands moving
the watch and life became mine.
Then stunned I watched the hands stop.
Now awake my dream was gone,
yet it shed new light with dawn.
It's not the time our life enfolds;
it's the life our time unfolds.
